Rai:Usman's right...hehe...its the genes...my father is a wonderful artist...:) What I did for the water here was to just use an eraser to rub off the pencil at places and this kind of added the white highlights making the water come to life.Try using the corner of a square/rectangular eraser....gives better control.
p.s:I used the derwent water soluble sketch pencils that I talked about previously...the set comes with a water color brush and you can wet it and apply onto the pencil shaded areas...thats how I got the bank of the lake on the left to be so black/dark/

tht water color brush trick is neat.for dark ares i hv been using charcoal pencils and then trying to rub them in with my fingers and tht made it look even more rough and grainy.keep drawing i m learning a lot here
